One of my favorite practices is opening a book to a random page and receiving the gift that is there. (usually on point with lots of synchronicity!)
Here’s a gem from Free Play by Stephen Nachmanovitch:

“In planning, we focus attention on the field we are about to enter, then release the plan and discover the reality of time’s flow. Thus we tap into living synchronicity.
As an improvising musician, I am not in the music business, I am not in the creativity business; I am in the surrender business. Improvisation is acceptance, in a single breath, of both transient and eternity. We know what might happen in the next day or minute, but we cannot know what will happen. To the extent that we feel sure of what will happen we will lock in the future and insulate ourselves against those essential surprises. Surrender means cultivating a comfortable attitude toward not knowing, being nurtured by the mystery of moments that are dependably surprising, ever fresh.” - Stephen Nachmanovitch, Free Play, p. 22
I find this so supportive as we cross over into the 2nd half of this month of practice.
I just came from 2 weeks in the woods and today I am off to Vermont to assist in a Feldenkrais Training!
I keep returning to my intention this month: trust
Trust in creative process, the unfolding of things... Trust in how our practices change, trust in layers of practice, and the importance of orientation, experimentation, rest, and opening to and enjoying the many gifts along the way.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Stephen Nachmanovitch, about his books Free Play and The Art of Is in 2019. You can listen / watch the interview here: Improvising as a Way of Life
I invite you to open a book to a random page and share / reflect below.
Note: there is no way to share images in this post so you can either type your quote or share the image here.
Really beautiful and just what I needed to hear today ❤️
