Stability, Tone, Flexibility & Clarity
I had a close colleague that I met in a Feldenkrais training that I was teaching. He was a physician from Mass General, a Feldenkrais practitioner for many years, and did the work of Ericksonian hypnosis as well. He said:
“What I feel is, I need to get something else that keeps me more together, not just being flexible.
In medicine, we have something that we call ‘solvents’, that dissolve everything. We put it in and it makes things dissolve.
And we also have, we don't really call it glue, but it's like glue, that we take something, instead of making it dissolve, we get it more stable, more formed, that it keeps it together, keeps it harder, keeps it, more tonified.
Could you figure out a way (because you know movement so well), to do something like that for me?”
I decided to develop this series for him (with things that I was also looking into for myself).
I came back (with what I created), and he said, “This is fantastic. What is this? How did you do it? This is great. You should teach it.”
In JKA Solvents & Glue
There's a very clear buildup and order. A very clear, concise, precise order of the things that you need to understand with yourself so that I can introduce the next element.
There's different combinations that I use of how to put movements together, so that we can build up certain configurations to develop as we go along.
It deals with repetition, repeating movements. Sometimes we do 10 times. Then we stop and wait.
We deal with very clear positionality, adopting positions, and how to move in certain positions, staying firm in certain areas, and allowing other areas to move more, other areas to move less.
There's a lot of clarity about joints that you will develop, very specific joints, and how to combine these into different ways to produce either flexibility, stamina, firmness or tone.

I felt really powerful, and things that might have been hard the day before were easy.
So both in my orthopedic practice and definitely my Feldenkrais practice, using what I learned to help people. I'm just watching everyone's walking in a different way. The movement of the pelvis is so important.
I come from a background of being pretty dependent on other people to look after my health, and it was a revelation to me because it brought so much autonomy.
As a lifelong athlete, I can pepper this into all of my day.
My ankles were so happy those 4 days. Just an incredible flexibility that I hadn't felt in years.
The things that I liked about it were the format and the results.
I'm a big walker, and I had noticed that when I was getting over 10 ks, I started to get some soreness in my hip, and that just totally went away with this program.
I really had a sense of hope for being able to continue doing a high level of activity and sports, which I love.
I have arthritis in both knees and difficulties walking downhill and downstairs. During this relatively short period of time, only 16 hours in the workshop, I managed to change the way I distribute weight onto my knees, and this allows me to walk without pain.
I’m getting a really clear picture of what my hips were doing. After the 4th day of training, it was like having an x-ray.
All my joints felt extremely well-oiled. After doing the workshops, I had to be pretty active helping my daughter move, and everything just moved so well. I hadn't felt so good in so long.
So much hope about the aging process and how we can continue to use our bodies, learn ways to respect our limits, but also transcend them.
